FAQ
Start with the dial. Let your coffee guide the rest.
Coffee passes between an inner cone-shaped burr and an outer burr. Turning the handle breaks the beans down; changing the gap changes the grind. BurrPress pairs 420 stainless steel conical burrs with an aluminum body and a numbered external dial.
Fine settings are intended for espresso; pour-over generally calls for a coarser grind. Your beans, basket, and machine determine the setting and whether you can dial in a particular recipe. We do not promise compatibility with every espresso setup. Fine grinding also tends to take more turns and effort.
The numbered dial sits outside the grinder, so you can adjust without opening the catch cup. Note your setting when a brew tastes good, together with your beans and recipe. Dial numbers are relative starting points for this grinder, not universal recipes or a calibrated particle-size chart. Never force the dial past its stop.
Begin with your brewer’s recipe: usually medium to medium-fine for pour-over and finer for espresso. Keep the dose, water, and technique steady. Change the grind a little, taste, and write down the result. Avoid overfilling or packing beans down; work in smaller portions when needed.
The grinder, crank handle, and catch cup. The $8 cleaning brush and $19 EVA travel case are sold separately. The burrs shown separately in photographs illustrate the mechanism; they are not a spare set.
Obsidian Black is the purchasable finish. Grey and gold finishes in reference photography are not selectable products. Grinder and accessory images are product photographs.
